Antennas for Cellular, PCS, Nextel - Body / Rooftop Mount |

Body mount antennas require a 3/4" mounting hole drilled in a metal surface of the vehicle like the roof or trunk lid. (Not to be taken lightly!) This option is best for building contractors, field service vehicles and people who plan to keep their car for many years or are not concerned with drilling a hole in the body of their vehicle. Like the Mag Mount Antenna, these antennas also use the body metal of the vehicle as an integral part of the antenna (ground plane). Low Loss (of gain) cable is supplied with these antennas and is usually 15-17 feet long. Cable is run through the headliner, down behind interior trim pieces and connected to the phone via an antenna adapter or car kit. Please Note: Care must be taken to achieve a good metal contact (ground) by removing paint on underside of mounting surface. Antenna should be sealed with a thin bead of silcone to make sure that water cannot enter into the interior of the vehicle. Special Note for RV owners. These antennas work well on RV's but may require a ground plane if your RV is made out of fiberglass or corrogated metal. A piece of Galvanized Flashing - 28" square or larger (available at most hardware stores for cheap) siliconed or screwed to the roof works wonderfully with these antennas. Or you can use a glass mount antenna on the front windshield (at the top) - or - use the same flashing and use a mag mount antenna. Special Note for Fixed Applications (Home or Office): These antennas can be used in a fixed application provided you have a metal Ground Plane to mount them to. We have had a few customers mount them to their tin roofs (unique idea but quite functional). |
